Digital
Hello World, my name is Celia
I'm a designer and developer of engaging, frictionless, human-centred solutions that deliver exceptional user experiences.
About Me
I love the internet. I think the potential of the web as a tool for information, education, and connection is limitless, and that, despite what you might think (or have read in the news recently), lots of really positive, exciting, and socially meaningful things are still happening online. But I also think we can make things even better—whether that's by striving to create intuitive, user-centred digital experiences, or by using the principles of design thinking to refocus attention on what matters most: easing persistent pain points and fulfilling real user needs.
Many encounters with confusing landing pages, unclear forms, and overly complicated sign-ins inspired me to begin a career in design to try and improve the kinds of experiences that I've always found it frustrating to navigate online in the past. My goal is to create easy and accessible user flows that help people do everything from completing simple tasks to achieving significant goals that may have a lasting impact on their lives.
I believe the best websites, apps, digital tools, and online experiences go beyond intuition; they help teach you how to use them as an integral part of their design. As such, teaching and learning have always been key to my design practice, and I've previously worked on projects with a distinct focus on user education that also privilege learner needs. My passion for learning extends to my own career as well. I love discovering and becoming proficient in new technologies, tech stacks, and ways of doing things, and view every challenge as an opportunity to build my skills and experience.
Skills
UX/UI
I can boast "end-to-end" UX design process experience, having worked on everything from user discovery to post-launch testing.
I've planned and delivered design workshops in order to reach actionable insights about improving user experience; used a wide variety of digital design tools to design and build wireframes and prototypes suitable for a a wide variety of user testing modalities; and tested materials with target user groups to determine where improvements can be made.
Coding
To me, coding is another tool to bring meaningful content to the digital space.
My skills include mark-up and advanced styling in HTML and CSS; creation of dynamic on-page components and implementation of component libraries in JavaScript and jQuery; creation of database populated websites and content in PHP/MySQL; website design, plugin implementation, backend coding and templating in WordPress; and implementation of design frameworks such as Bootstap and Tailwind CSS for more efficient website builds.
Writing
I have many years’ experience in writing and editing, both via my extensive academic background, and as a long-time newspaper contributor. The latter experience in particular has given me the confidence, to write for a broad audience on any topic.
I've also written extensively for online course development, using plain language and instructional design best practices to help reduce potential cognitive overload when learning something new.
Social Media
As a social media content creator, I combine an ability to compose lively, audience-targeted copy with a high degree of competence in a wide variety of digital media production tools and programs.
I also place great importance on recognising the responsibilies that come with putting content up on the web, and am an online safety policymaker, taking the lead on producing community social media use and participation guidelines, and enforcing codes of conduct.
